JUVENILE JUSTICE TASK FORCE ANNOUNCED

Date: December 23, 2019

JUVENILE JUSTICE TASK FORCE ANNOUNCED
The Task Force

Gov. Wolf, legislative leaders, and justices announced on Dec. 16 a renewed focus on juvenile justice efforts in the commonwealth, formalizing a joint agreement with the Pew Charitable Trusts on the creation of a Juvenile Justice Task Force.

The Task Force will examine how youth become involved in the criminal justice system,
how they might be helped to avoid involvement and
how to protect them through the process so they come out of the system with a positive outlook for the future.

According to Pew, the overarching goal is to develop data-driven policy recommendations through stakeholder consensus that protect public safety, ensure accountability, contain costs and improve outcomes for youth, families, and communities.

Task Force members will be appointed within 30 days and will develop a report detailing what should be done to strengthen the juvenile justice system by Nov. 30, 2020.
