In addition to providing access to quality health care for individuals, AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania is dedicated to improving the health status of entire communities, empowering the poor and disadvantaged, and advocating for those unable to speak for themselves. Our Mission Statement guides us as we strive each day to deliver the best possible service to our members.
History
AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan traces its roots back to Mercy Health Plan, which was founded in 1982 at Misericordia Hospital in West Philadelphia with 300 enrolled members.
Mercy Health Plan expanded to Berks, Lancaster and Lehigh counties in 1988.
After a decade of growth, Mercy Health Plan was the first Medical Assistance plan to receive full National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Accreditation in 1992.
In 1997, Mercy Health Plan entered into artnership with AmeriHealth First to form AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan. AmeriHealth Mercy operates under a license held by AmeriHealth First.
Today, AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan serves more than 100,000 Medical Assistance recipients in 15 counties in Central and Northeastern Pennsylvania.
