OPEN MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID CERTIFICATION COURSES

The mass shooting that took place at the Tree of Life synagogue in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh on October 27, 2018, is believed to be the deadliest attack against the Jewish Community in United State history.

One way of providing recovery to the impacted community, as well as other regions of the Commonwealth, was for staff from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OHMSAS), Pittsburgh Field Office to apply for a Supplemental Emergency Response Grant (SERG) from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
A SERG award has been made and funds will be used for various Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and other types of training in response to the Tree of Life incident, including Substance Use Disorder (SUD) training.

While Allegheny County and the Squirrel Hill neighborhood are of the primary focal areas, funds may also be used for training throughout the Commonwealth.

Please find attached the application and announcement detailing the information for the upcoming MHFA Instructor Training this spring.
If you have questions regarding this training, please contact OMHSAS’s Pittsburgh Field Office at 412-565-5226.
