2018 ANNUAL PERMANENCY CONFERENCE

2018 SWAN / IL Summer Statewide Meeting

Information regarding the 2018 SWAN / IL Summer Statewide Meeting is below.  Please read the information carefully. Pre-registration is required and can be done by clicking the registration link below. Last day to register is May 30, 2018.

The Office of Children, Youth and Families (OCYF); the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN) prime contractor; and the Pennsylvania Child Welfare Resource Center’s Independent Living Project are pleased to announce the agenda for the 2018 SWAN/Independent Living (IL) Summer Statewide Meeting, which will be held June 12-13 at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in Pocono Manor, Pennsylvania. SWAN affiliates are required to attend quarterly and statewide meetings. We also invite and encourage caseworkers, supervisors and administrators from each county children and youth agency to attend.

The morning general session of the 2018 SWAN/IL Summer Statewide is “Trauma and Recovery,” presented by Tonier Cain-Muldrow. Tonier will relate the components of trauma-informed care to the impact of trauma on foster/adoptive youth and prevention of unintentional further harm. Tonier will also help participants recognize trauma blind spots, which can distort perceptions, lead to costly mistakes and artificially constrain the prospects of trauma survivors who deserve understanding and genuine opportunities.

Tonier Cain-Muldrow is a trauma survivor and internationally recognized trauma-informed care expert who delivers a message of incredible perseverance and hope. Tonier's work has focused on heightening awareness of the characteristics and effects of trauma and improving the performance of service providers, government agencies and others who interact with trauma victims and survivors.

We are pleased to offer a comprehensive agenda of six concurrent sessions following the general session on Tuesday, June 12 and an additional six concurrent sessions on the morning of Wednesday, June 13. Please review the session descriptions accompanying the registration form.

A matching reception will be held the evening of Tuesday, June 12.  County workers who represent waiting children and affiliate workers conducting child-specific recruitment will share information directly with families about children waiting for permanent connections.  Families will learn firsthand about the children in Pennsylvania who need permanency.

To register, click here or complete the registration form on the Diakon website at www.diakon-swan.org under Events.  We look forward to seeing you as we continue to network for permanency on behalf of Pennsylvania’s children.  Carrie Keiser, Supervisor
